NDIS Internal Audits: Practical Skills for Real-World Compliance

A focused, 2-hour interactive online workshop designed to help NDIS providers conduct internal audits that genuinely strengthen their systems — not just tick boxes.

Internal audits are a mandatory requirement under the NDIS Practice Standards, yet many providers struggle with knowing what good actually looks like, how much evidence is enough, and how to document findings in a way that stands up to external scrutiny.

This practical, facilitator-led session focuses on how internal audits are actually assessed, and how to run them in a way that supports audit readiness, reduces risk, and drives continuous improvement.

About the training

Join Patty Wassenaar, Technical Manager at Engels Floyd Quality Consulting, for an interactive session grounded in decades of auditing and quality system experience.

The workshop adopts the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) framework, providing a clear, structured approach to internal auditing while keeping the focus firmly on real-world application. Participants are encouraged to ask questions and work through practical examples relevant to their own organisation.

What you’ll learn

During this session, we will cover:

  • Understanding process-based internal audits and why they matter under the NDIS Practice Standards
  • How to plan and scope audits so they are proportionate, risk-based, and defensible (Plan & Do)
  • Developing and maintaining an effective internal audit program
  • Practical guidance on conducting internal audits and gathering meaningful evidence (Check)
  • How to document findings, identify non-conformances, and record opportunities for improvement
  • Translating audit outcomes into corrective actions and system improvements (Act)
  • Common internal audit pitfalls — and how to avoid them

Throughout the session, we’ll also share insights into what auditors are really looking for when reviewing internal audit evidence.

Included resources

Participants will receive:

  • A Learner Workbook to support note-taking and application
  • A mini toolkit with practical templates and tools to support your internal audit program
  • A certificate of attendance following the session
