The EFQC Enquirer: 11 August 2026

This month, we look at what the new SIL Practice Standards mean in practice, why implementation and evidence matter just as much as documentation, the broader NDIS reforms ahead, and the growing use of AI and automation in compliance.

EFQC Update: What We’re Seeing Across the Sector

It’s been another busy month for the Engels Floyd team, with plenty of conversations taking place around the changes happening across the NDIS sector.

A big focus has been supporting Supported Independent Living (SIL) providers as they work through the new SIL Practice Standards. One thing has become very clear: most providers understand what has changed, but many are still asking, “What does this actually look like in practice?” During our recent webinar on Understanding the new SIL Practice Standards, Patty Wassenaar reinforced an important message: having the right policies and procedures is simply not enough. The real focus is on implementation, evidence, and ensuring quality systems are embedded into everyday service delivery.

We’re also seeing growing interest in the broader NDIS Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026. Providers are recognising that these reforms are about much more than registration, they signal an increased focus on governance, organisational capability and demonstrating quality outcomes.

Finally, we’ve noticed many providers exploring automation and AI tools to help manage compliance. While these tools can save time and improve efficiency, they don’t replace the need for strong leadership, workforce capability and effective implementation. Compliance is about more than maintaining documentation—it’s about ensuring quality systems are embedded into everyday practice.

As always, thank you to everyone who has reached out to us over the past month. We look forward to continuing to support providers as they navigate the changes ahead.

Automation Doesn’t Mean Compliance: Why People, Not Policies, Drive Quality

AI and automation are making NDIS compliance easier to manage – but technology alone doesn’t create compliance.

In our latest article, automation doesn’t mean compliance: why people, not policies, drive quality, we explore where AI can help, where the risks lie, and why leadership, workforce capability, implementation and evidence still matter.

What Do the Latest NDIS Reforms Mean for Providers?

The NDIS Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 introduces some of the most significant reforms since the Scheme began. While mandatory registration reforms are already underway, the broader changes will progressively reshape how providers participate in the NDIS.

From provider enrolment and expanded mandatory registration to commissioned provider panels and a stronger focus on governance, evidence and organisational capability, these reforms signal a clear shift towards a more regulated and performance-driven provider market.

We’ve unpacked the key reforms, what they mean for providers, and the practical steps organisations should be taking now to prepare.
