A practical, customisable Supported Independent Living (SIL) Participant Handbook template designed to help NDIS providers give participants clear, accessible information about their home, supports, rights, choices and how their SIL services work.
Providers can tailor the handbook with their own organisational information, processes and contact details before giving it to participants.
Supported Independent Living (SIL) Participant Handbook Template
Providing participants with information is about more than handing over a Service Agreement or a collection of policies. Participants should have clear, understandable information about their supports, their rights, their home and the choices available to them.
Our Supported Independent Living (SIL) Participant Handbook Template gives NDIS providers a practical starting point for developing participant-friendly information specifically for Supported Independent Living.
Designed with the everyday SIL environment in mind, the handbook brings important information together in one place and helps providers explain key aspects of the participant’s service in a clear and approachable way.
The template can be customised to reflect your organisation, including your services, contact details, processes and other organisation-specific information.
It can be provided when a participant commences services and used as an ongoing reference throughout their time with your organisation.
Importantly, the handbook is intended to support – not replace – individualised conversations with participants. Providers should consider each participant’s communication needs and preferences and provide information in a format they can understand.
The template must be customised before use so that the information accurately reflects your organisation, its services and processes.

Is this handbook specifically for Supported Independent Living?
Yes. The template has been developed specifically for NDIS providers delivering Supported Independent Living (SIL) and covers topics relevant to the SIL environment, including living arrangements, SIL Service Agreements, housing and tenancy arrangements, participant choice, safety, privacy and living with others.
Do we need to customise the handbook?
Yes. This is a template, not a finished organisational handbook. Providers should review and customise it before use, including adding their organisation’s details, contact information, processes and other relevant information.
Does the handbook replace our SIL Service Agreement?
No. The Participant Handbook is an information resource and does not replace your SIL Service Agreement, housing or tenancy agreement, participant support documentation, organisational policies or other required documentation.
When should we give the handbook to participants?
It can be introduced during participant onboarding or commencement of SIL services and remain available as an ongoing reference. Relevant sections should also be revisited when circumstances, services or organisational information change.
